BIRTH PREPARATION COURSE
GIVING BIRTH & PROVIDING SUPPORT
TO PREPARE FOR BIRTH
Giving birth is, for most people, an overwhelming experience, both physically and mentally. It's a journey that can feel challenging, unpredictable, breathtaking and beautiful - all at once. Your body already has all the knowledge it needs to birth your baby, but with deeper understanding, preparation, and practical tools, you can increase your chances of feeling confident and calm in handling the situations that arise. The course includes both practical and mental preparation and aims to strengthen you as a team for the birth, as well as for the postpartum period, while helping you find a path toward your dream birth on your own terms. As a support person, it's easy to feel helpless or uncertain about how best to provide support. After this course, however, you will be fully equipped with useful tools, techniques, and knowledge so that you can both feel confident and involved throughout all phases of labor, and so you can face the contractions (and then your baby) together with ease. All of this is designed to give you the best conditions to emerge from the experience feeling empowered and to begin your new chapter calmly.

TESTIMONIALS

FAQ
Why should I choose a private birth preparation course?
The advantage of a private childbirth preparation course led by a doula is that you receive a personalized and comprehensive plan, tailored specifically to your needs and wishes. Yes, you do get access to well-prepared and pre-planned material, but we always start from you, your feelings, and your previous experiences. Everything is connected to you, and you decide which parts should receive more or less focus during the course.
We also meet at your home, in an environment and format that makes it easier to talk openly about thoughts, feelings, and experiences, compared to meeting in a larger group with many others in an unfamiliar location. In addition to the above, this type of course offers great flexibility regarding dates and times, so you don't have to worry about rushing to a session or feeling that it's scheduled "wrong" in relation to your specific week of pregnancy.
Who benefits from this course?
This course is for you who:
-
Are curious about how to give your body the best conditions for giving birth.
-
Want to be mentally and physically prepared to make informed choices.
-
Wish to become a confident and even more cohesive "birth team" with your support persons.
-
Experience anxiety or fear about giving birth.
-
Want tools to help reduce pain and manage contractions.
-
Don't just want to "take things as they come" and risk feeling like a powerless observer during birth.
-
Would like more knowledge on how to support and promote breastfeeding and bonding.
-
Feel that you want a cozy preparation and extra boost before birth and life with your baby.
-
Need to know what to expect in different situations in order to relax.
-
Want to increase your chances of giving birth on your own terms and remembering the experience as empowering.
When is the best time to book
It's individual and entirely up to what you feel works best for your family, your unique journey, and your everyday schedule. As a guideline, it's common to book the course around pregnancy weeks 32–36. This gives you plenty of time to practice (what feels relevant to you) and avoids it feeling rushed or too close to your baby's arrival, while still keeping it close enough to birth to feel timely and useful.
I'm a second-time parent - is the course still relevant?
Absolutely! There may be parts that you feel you already have a handle on, but there are definitely many aspects to explore, deepen, and refine - both new and familiar. The parts that don't feel as relevant to you can simply be skipped, and we can instead spend that time discussing your previous experiences and focusing on how we can use them to your advantage now.
Do I have to bring a partner?
Not at all! If you're attending alone or your partner can't be present, the course still works perfectly, and you can definitely gain a lot of useful insights on your own. We can go through everything and have a confidence-boosting, cozy preparation for birth just the two of us.
However, I do recommend having some form of support person you feel comfortable with (if you don't plan to be alone during the birth). This is partly because some of the course material involves learning techniques and tools for supporting someone during birth. Some practical exercises can also be trickier to practice entirely on your own afterward, once I'm no longer there (though it's still possible if you want to).
Additionally, there's a lot to gain from practicing with someone who will actually be present during the birth. Familiar elements (like touch, patterns of contact, voices, smells, and faces etc.) can help stimulate oxytocin (the "calm and connection hormone" that supports contractions) during labor.
Do I need to prepare anything beforehand?
You don't need to have prepared anything at home before I arrive. I bring most of what's needed, and we use the furniture and space available on-site.
However, I usually send out a questionnaire by email before the course, and it's helpful if you've had a chance to go through it and answer briefly before we meet for the second session. The idea is that you'll have started reflecting and have a clearer picture of what you want to focus on when we meet. If you'd like help creating a birth plan, it's also a good idea to have sketched out the main points in advance, so we can build on them together during the session. (And if you need a template to get started, I'll of course provide one).
Can we book you as a doula after taking the course?
If you'd like to hire me as a doula (a full doula package) after taking the course, it's usually possible depending on my (on-call) availability. The cost of the course is then deducted from the total package price.
Where is the course offered?
I'm based in Mölnlycke, just south of Gothenburg, and offer childbirth preparation courses in the surrounding areas: Varberg, Kungsbacka, Borås, Lerum/Alingsås, and up toward Trollhättan. Travel fees may apply.
Occasionally, I'm also able to hold courses further away (including the Skövde area). Feel free to get in touch, and we can discuss what's possible for your specific situation!
Do you offer birth preparation courses online?
Yes, it's possible to book a digital childbirth preparation course. In that case, we meet via video call, and the course is tailored to your needs and wishes. (Practical exercises will naturally be more limited.)
Feel free to contact me to discuss possible formats and to receive a customized cost estimate.
